Those who gave their lives from Yarm ______________________________________

MARSTON, Herbert Hildred. L/Cpl 1362 1/4th Yorks.

Return to Yarm Roll Call

The following was taken from the Yorkshire Regiment website

Killed in action on 5 Sep 1915 aged 24. Husband of Eveline Marston who later remarried and became Mrs Coates of 10 Dalton St, Darlington. He had been born in Yarm and enlisted there in Aug 1914 while still living there. He is recorded on the Preston/Egglescliffe Junction Memorial but it is clear that he was living in Yarm on enlistment. Strand Military Cem, Belgium

Yarm1914 believe that Herbert Hildred was born in York in 1892. His father John Kendrew Marston was a hairdresser and the family moved to 18 Beechwood Road, Preston-on-Tees between 1895 and 1899. By 1911 he had left home and was working on the Wilson Farm in Appleton Wiske as a servant and waggoner. His youngest brother Harold had died and his mother Luise Bowker had given birth to another son Ronald Kedrew in 1904.
